[Timeline Infographic: Nursing School → Credential Evaluation → NCLEX → RN Licence]

The Short Answer for Kenyan Nurses

For nurses who already hold a Kenyan diploma or BSN: 6–18 months from starting the process to holding your US RN licence, depending on credential processing speed, state BON review, and how quickly you prepare for and pass the NCLEX.

Stage-by-Stage Timeline

1

Credential Evaluation (2–6 months)

Submit transcripts to CGFNS or a state-approved evaluator. This is the longest stage. Start immediately.

2

State BON Application (1–3 months)

Apply to the state Board of Nursing where you plan to work. They review credentials and issue your ATT (Authorization to Test).

3

NCLEX Preparation (4–12 weeks)

With a structured study plan, most candidates prepare in 4–12 weeks. Get our complete study plan here.

4

Sit the NCLEX (1 day)

Schedule at a Pearson VUE centre. Results via Quick Results within 24–48 hours.

5

Receive Your RN Licence

Your state BON issues the licence. NLC states offer multistate coverage across 40+ states.

⏩️ Start Credential Evaluation Now — Do Not Wait

The biggest mistake Kenyan nurses make is not starting credential evaluation early enough. Begin this process before you even start studying for the NCLEX.
